Pakistan ripe for civil revolution

Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, February 20, 2010. Senator Khurshid Ahmad said that ordinary people were suffering from acute food shortage and mounting price rise. He said that the middle class society has now begun welcoming the Taliban as an alternative to the current dispensation. He warned that if the government does not take corrective measures, it may soon face a civil revolution. He said that while five million people suffer from poverty, elite politicians continue to enjoy a life of opulence and remain unaffected by the anguish of the masses.

I can face mid-term election: Gilani

Lahore: Daily Ausaf, February 22, 2010. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has asked all public institutions to work within their jurisdictions to strengthen democracy. While addressing a huge gathering assembled on the eve of Hamid Nizami day, he dismissed calls for mid-term elections, terming them as counterproductive. Meanwhile, Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif demanded that the President hand over powers to the Prime Minister and the Parliament.

Afghan Taliban moving to Karachi

Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, February 25, 2010. Members of the Afghan Taliban, including key leaders are increasingly shifting base from Quetta to Karachi. According to news reports, fearing drone strikes, many prominent Taliban leaders shifted from Quetta. Karachi, however, is home to about three million Pashtuns and the Taliban have blended amongst the civilian population, thus making it very hard for the law enforcement agencies to identify them.

Jamaat-i-Islami: Talk to India on own terms

Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, February 23, 2010. Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Syed Munawwar Hussein said the government of Pakistan should engage in dialogue with India on its terms and that if India refused to discuss water issues and human rights abuse in Kashmir, Pakistan should immediately opt out of dialogue. He also raised the issue of increased trade across the Line of Control (LoC).

Changing society in Pak-administered Kashmir

Islamabad: Daily Khabrain/Ausaf, February 20, 2010. The Ahmadia Muslim community has spread its influence in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and is actively helping India, said Professor Ziaurrhman Kashmiri. He accused RAW and Mossad of funding them, adding that 30y Ahmadia families have started social activities to divert young Muslims from Islam.

India blamed for desecration of Islamic symbols

Karachi: Karachi Updates, February 23, 2010. Indians are now openly defiing Islam by publishing a cartoon of Prophet Hazrat Eisa or the Jesus Christ. This was said by clerics during a huge gathering of students under the banner of Al-Mohammadia Students Conference. The various speakers warned that soon desecration of Islamic symbols will follow.
