Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, January 19, 2010. He informed the Assembly that Pakistan suffered losses worth 38 billion dollars in combating terrorism, and that the international community was yet to fulfill its obligation to compensate Pakistan for its sacrifices in the `war on terror`.

Grievances against America

Islamabad: Daily Khabrain/Ausaf, January 20, 2010. The Urdu media widely criticized the United States during the visit of Special Envoy to the region, Amb Richard Holbrooke. The editorials accused the US of :

 •   Playing a key role to discredit the Kashmir cause.

 •  Signing Nuclear Deal with India against Pakistan’s interest.
 •  Increasing business with India, and pushing Pakistan further under loans and donations, even after Pakistan had lost 38 billion dollars during the last decade.
 •  Turning Afghanistan into Pakistan’s enemy.
 •  Abusing Pakistani citizens in the guise of security checks.
 •  Forcing Pakistani forces to open a new front against its own people.
 •  Destroying the Red Mosque and Hafsa University and killing more than one hundred girl students.
 •  Killing hundreds of innocent civilians in drone attacks.
 •  Torturing Pakistan citizens illegally imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay prison.
 •  Kidnapping Dr. Afia Siddiqui and torturing her.

No arrests without charges: Supreme Court

Islamabad: Daily Jang, January 20, 2010. Chief Justice of the Pakistan Supreme Court Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary directed the intelligence agencies not to arrest people without proper charges. Recently a 60 years old woman was arrested on December 06, 2009. The victim complained that she was tortured while in custody.

Pak-Af plus Iran

Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, January 21, 2010. . Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran have signed an accord not to use their respective territories against each other in a special meeting of External Ministers. This follows US President Barrack Obama’s announcement of deploying another 30 thousand troops to Afghanistan in the coming months.

The ministers said that the agreement was needed as America was encouraging India to encircle Pakistan by increasing its presence in Afghanistan. The news report said an alliance between the three countries was the best way to restore the balance of power in the region which is currently disturbed by the US tilting towards India. Closer cooperation between the three will help end Indian activities in Afghanistan.
