Sh. Brajesh Mishra is the first National Security Adviser of India and is a former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. He was born on September 29, 1928. He is the son of late Shri D P Mishra, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. He has been the Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Geneva and was the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia. He was also India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from June 1979 to April 1981. He continued with the United Nations, on deputation, till June 1987. In April 1991, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he quit in March 1998 to become the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India. From November 1998 to May 23, 2004, he was also the National Security Adviser. He has been one of the Trustees of ORF from March 31, 2007 onwards.
